Performing Opportunities & More Info
The Ohio Dominican University Marching Band performs at home football games, high school band contests, community events, parades and ODU functions.
Each year the Marching Band provides the students with a performing opportunity rich
in depth and originality, yet able to rock the crowd leading our Panthers to victory.
The Marching Band plays a wide variety of music: from rock to jazz and classical to
country; that enables us to give the audience an unforgettable audio experience.
Students interested in the Marching Band must be enrolled at ODU and in MUS 122 for the fall term. The Marching Band rehearses anywhere from 4-6 hours per week and performs on Saturdays.
Interested students must have some previous instrumental experience. All students, regardless of ability level, will have the opportunity to participate in the Marching Band.
Auditions are held the first day of band camp for all available spots in the guard and auxiliary. Band camp will take place the week prior to the first day of school.
Another ensemble at the university is the Ohio Dominican University Concert Band. This group focuses on learning traditional band music as well as symphonic arrangements, concert marches, show tune and movie arrangements, and original student compositions.
The Concert Band serves as a major contributor to university events, recruitment through
touring, commencement, and the annual spring concert.
Like the Marching Band, any student at ODU can participate in the Concert Band.
There will be a small seating audition the first week of the spring term that is used
to place students in the ensemble based on current ability levels. Students must be
enrolled in MUS 122 during the spring term to participate.
During the winter and spring sports seasons, the Pep Band serves as the "6th man," giving our sports team a real home field advantage by keeping the crowd rowdy with the biggest hits on the radio and in sports today.
We have the option for students to create small ensembles such as a jazz combo, woodwind or brass quintets, like-instrument choirs, percussion ensembles and many more.
Students are also able to take private lessons and give a recital on any instrument with the consent of the approved instructor.
Yes, if a student participates in both Marching Band and Concert Band, then that student may be eligible for a scholarship.
I haven't been playing very long. Can I still participate?
Yes, instrumentalist of all ability levels will be able to participate in the program.
Is there an audition involved?
