The curriculum for Ohio Dominican's Master of Arts in Theology program has been developed from the competency goals identified by three key associations for ministry:
- National Association for Lay Ministry
- National Federation for Catholic Youth Ministry, Inc.
- National Conference for Catechetical Leadership
- Theological
The theological competency goals form the centerpiece of the ODU curriculum. Ohio Dominican offers courses in biblical, historical, systematic and pastoral theology. Students who complete this program are prepared for further academic study as well as ministry. - Professional
The professional competency goals that contribute to success in ministry are addressed through various electives, which include opportunities for independent study and internships in ministry. - Personal
The personal competency goals are central to the preparation of candidates for ministry. This aspect of the program is primarily addressed in opportunities provided for retreats, mentoring and spiritual direction. These competencies are assessed through portfolio requirements, such as documenting meetings with mentors and writing reflective essays.
Career Opportunities
- Teach Religion at Catholic high schools
- Teach as adjunct faculty at a college or university
- Work as Director of Parish School of Religion
- Work in Diocesan offices in a variety of roles
- Assist in health care institutions as coordinators of prayer services
